Up until now the most delicious chocolate covered nuts I had ever tasted were Perigord Walnuts in dark chocolate. The walnuts are sun dried in the Perigord region of France, and coated in just the right amount of very dark chocolate. Individual packaging makes them perfect to tuck into my handbag. The combination of crunchy dried walnut, deeply flavored dark chocolate, and a dusting of cocoa is as perfect as any food could possibly be, but if you are looking for something sweet don’t buy these. They are very adult and not particularly sugary. You can find them on-line at kisglobalflavors.com (a Canadian company). Yes, the dollar has tanked in Canada as well as elsewhere, but they are still a bargain at under $28 for 300 grams.
Recently, I had the opportunity to taste two other chocolate covered nut products from a Spanish company called ChocoLate Organiko. Both are made with 70% organic dark chocolate, and both have slightly caramelized nuts: almonds or hazelnuts. What distinguishes these from other similar products is the hint of caramelization. It’s not overpowering. There’s no hard shell between the nut and the chocolate, and the quality of the chocolate is excellent. The nuts were fresh, crunchy, and full of flavor. The packaging is almost origami-like: simple and lovely. You can find these on igourmet.com
