B.T. McElrath Salty Dog 70% Chocolate Bar with Sea Salt and Toffee Bits

I really enjoyed talking with Steve Jennings at Chocolata in Torrence, California. There’s nothing like comparing notes with someone who speaks the same language.  He carried B.T. McElrath’s Salty Dog bar that I had wanted to try for a while, so I bought one. It’s 70% dark chocolate with toffee bits and sea salt, a marvelous combination.  The salt is more pronounced than in the recently reviewed Lindt bar, but not over the top. Toffee pieces add just the right amount of crunch, and their caramel-sweetness is a great counterpoint to the 70% dark chocolate. I also liked the design of the box, and the clear cellophane inner wrapper that tore neatly, allowing me to keep the remainder intact. Three ounces cost $5.

As an art lover, I was delighted to see a portion of the proceeds goes to the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.
